Wine Advocate-Parker : The Pio Cesare 2013 Barolo offers all of the plentiful qualities that make this such a memorable vintage. Because the growing season was slightly cooler compared to the two years preceding it, 2013 offers a great sense of freshness and brightness. Fruit was sourced from seven different vineyard sites (with much of it coming from Serralunga d'Alba). Starting in 2015, Monforte d'Alba fruit will be added. The tannins are tightly integrated within the firm fabric of the wine. Yet, the finish is round and supple. This Barolo offers characteristic aromas of wild berry, black truffle and cola. It is executed in a very traditional style with botte grande and a tiny part barrique to give the wine a tad more oxygen during its integration and aging process.

Wine Advocate-Parker : This is among Cordero di Montezemolo's standout wines, but I am less enthusiastic about the 2012 Barolo Monfalletto. The bouquet appears dry and streamlined with chalky and leathery tones that blow off quickly enough. The wine feels and tastes a bit older than it should. The appearance is thick and dark, and the wine exhibits a heavy texture in the mouth.

Nach seinem traumhaften 2003 verzaubert Roberto Voerzio uns mit dem Jahrgang 2004 seiner Ausnahmecuvée Barolo Fossati Case Nere Riserva 10 Anni. Die Nase ist unglaublich ausdrucksstark , von verführerischem Tiefgang mit Fruchtaromen und Röstnoten. Am Gaumen zeigt sich der Barolo Fossati Case Nere Riserva 10 Anni 2004 graziös und überraschend weich. Trotzdem sollte diese wunderbare Cuvée noch einige Jahre im Keller warten, um ihr Potenzial voll zu entfalten, besonders geduldige Liebhaber bis 2030.
Wine Advocate-Parker : The 2004 Barolo Fossati Case Nere Riserva 10 anni comes from a more balanced vintage (without big heat spikes) that shows a pretty garnet color. The structure is there and the bouquet is ever changing and fluid. There's a hint of dark fruit followed by spice, cola, dark truffle with tar notes of black granite and pencil shaving. This is second year this wine is produced. The wine is bottled after 24 months in oak and rests in bottle for six to seven years. There's a lot a fresh fruit left, despite its age. Drink: 2016-2034.

Made entirely from estate-grown fruit (sourced from vineyards located in both Barolo and Barbaresco), the 2015 Barbera d'Alba is a luscious and succulent wine with an inky, glossy appearance. Mature fruit aromas of dark cherry, spice and blackberry preserves hammer home the flavors associated with a warm growing season. The wine is partially aged in barrique (20%) and the remainder goes into oak casks for six months.

Wine Advocate-Parker : Ugo Lequio's 2013 Langhe Nebbiolo is a great value option with quality fruit from a classic vintage. This pretty wine opens to a light ruby color and a luminous appearance. The bouquet exhibits wild berry, licorice and a strong mineral signature with dusty granite and crushed flint. It leaves a lasting impression of elegance and linearity.

Wine Advocate-Parker : Here is a complete wine that shows a good balance and unity. The 2013 Barolo is subtle at first, but the bouquet opens surely and steadily with time. As it moves forward, it imparts tones of dried cherry, grilled herb and licorice root. The wine moves over the palate with soft intensity and mid-weight appeal. It offers more in terms of persistence than it does weight or density.

Wine Advocate-Parker : This wine represents a slight stylistic departure compared to past editions. The 2013 Barolo Ornato sees fruit sourced from Serralunga d'Alba from a site that is known for its power and concentration. This wine's identity is tightly linked to the wide popularity of this more robust taste profile. Pio Cesare opted to use a little less barrique and more delicate punch downs instead of pump overs (that tend to increase tannins and bitterness). They have also opted to increase maceration times by a slight margin. The results are spectacular. This is a wine I have always admired and I'm pleased to say that it just got better. Dark fruit and plum segue to soft spice, leather and licorice.
